Scuba Mask and Fin Fit Guide

A mask that seals comfortably and fins that fit your feet are a useful starting point for your own diving kit. Compare the fit of the exact model rather than relying only on the size of your previous equipment.

Choosing a scuba mask

Look at the skirt shape, the space around your nose and the position of the frame against your face. A lower-volume mask may suit some divers, but comfort and an even seal matter more than choosing by appearance. Consider a prescription-compatible model if you need vision correction; lens options depend on the model.

Full-foot or open-heel fins?

Full-foot fins fit directly around the foot and are often chosen for warm-water use. Open-heel fins use an adjustable strap and commonly pair with dive boots. Check whether the particular fin is designed for boots, then compare the manufacturer’s size chart with your boot size. Shoe sizes alone are not a guarantee of fit.

Checks before ordering

  • Compare the size and colour selected with the product variation.
  • Check whether boots or replacement straps are included or sold separately.
  • Choose a snorkel and mask case separately if the listing does not describe a set.

Care after a dive

Rinse with fresh water and allow the equipment to dry out of direct sunlight. Follow the manufacturer’s mask-cleaning guidance, especially for coated lenses. Avoid storing fins bent under heavy equipment.
