Reading a current and organising a drift dive

A drift dive is shaped by moving water, so the plan needs to connect what happens underwater with the boat’s surface arrangements. Drift Diver training develops your awareness of current direction, positioning and the practical importance of keeping the group together. The aim is to make movement predictable rather than leave each diver to work out a separate route.

You discuss how conditions affect entry, the underwater plan, communication and the end of the dive. Instructor-led exercises give you experience applying that plan while maintaining buoyancy and buddy contact. Suitable training conditions are essential; a date booking is not a guarantee that a strong current will be available or appropriate.

This specialty can suit a certified diver who wants to understand moving-water environments better. Send your qualification and recent experience so we can check eligibility and decide whether a buoyancy refresher would help first. Feeling in control of your position makes it easier to concentrate on the group and surroundings.

How drift training relates to Pattaya boat diving

Around Pattaya’s islands, water movement can influence the choice of site and how a dive is conducted. A plan that worked on a previous visit may need changing when conditions change. Your instructor connects course topics with the actual conditions available, rather than presenting one entry or exit method as suitable for every dive.

Tell the team about any discomfort with current, boat entries or surface coordination before training. The briefing explains the agreed signals, group plan and how the team will manage the exercise. Ask questions before entering the water whenever part of the plan is unclear.

The Drift Diver course is THB 4,800. It is separate from a normal fun-diving trip, which does not automatically include specialty assessment or certification. If you are choosing between an adventure dive and the full specialty, contact us with your goal and existing training.

Choose your experience and dates, then continue to the full booking form for optional accommodation and secure payment. Diving deposits are THB 900 per person. Available room stays are THB 850 per night and paid in full.

The remaining diving balance is paid separately. If accommodation is unavailable, you can still book diving.
